My name is Richard Ormesher. I'm a Christian, a father, a medical professional, and an elder at my church.
Whenever possible (all too infrequently), I enjoy fishing. I'm lousy at it, and the fish have a good laugh at my expense, but I enjoy the attempt.
I have a passion about teaching the truth of God's word and embrace Reformed Theology, believing it to be nothing less than sound biblical theology.
Reformed, ever reforming!
I have been greatly blessed over the years with the opportunity to preach on occasion and have had very encouraging feedback. I have included my sermons on this website. Feel free to criticize them - I do so myself, and I'm my own worst critic. So, if you find numerous points to criticize, that's okay. I learned a long time ago just to learn from it and move on, not letting myself stay stuck in trying to make a message "perfect". I trust the Holy Spirit will help the reader embrace the good and the true and reject the errors. Same goes for my Sunday School classes.
If you're interested, please take a moment to read my blog post "Why The Bleating Lion"? to see why I chose that as the name for this site.
The goal of this blog is to simply communicate my thoughts about God, the teaching of the bible as I understand it - we have one mouth and two ears, and we need to use them in that order, i.e. listening > speaking. This blog is me speaking - just know I'm listening and studying all the time.
I also intend this blog to be a reflection on current affairs in light of the truth of God's word and how we might live accordingly. Love and truth are inseparable (1 Corinthians 13), yet all too often they are divided. Sometimes truth hurts, but when the Spirit is actively dividing soul and spirit, joints from marrow (Hebrews 4:12), we need pay attention and listen, not just react in anger.
In addition to thoughts on current affairs, I will be expanding my comments to general health and nutrition. We are physical beings as well as spiritual, and for Christians, our bodies are meant to be temples of the indwelling Holy Spirit. This is a challenge for me; I know it is for others as well. Perhaps we can grow in this together.
I remember a sermon several years ago. The pastor talked about the resurrected Jesus showing up and talking with His disciples in a room behind a locked door. The point was the locked door. We keep barriers around us all the time, assuming they will protect us, when in fact we're called to go boldly into the world knowing it's not a safe place, but doing so knowing that He is with us.
Conflict and strife abound. But as I see a world in which thoughts and ideas come under wholesale assault when they're not in agreement with another's, this blog is my response. Expressing thoughts clearly is preferable to me than knee-jerk emotional rants. In a free society, we should be able to agree to disagree without shouting down or shutting down those with an opposing view. Nevertheless, I'm not blind to the cultural shift and so I do this knowing that in the public arena, I will inevitably be attacked for my views and people will try to silence me. So be it.
Lastly, I would appreciate your forwarding articles that interest you to those in your circle of friends. We belong in community and as Christians we are all citizens of heaven. It is my hope and prayer that as we grow in spiritual maturity and in physical well-being, our Lord will use each of us to influence those around us and ultimately bring others into the Kingdom for the sake of His glory for ever and ever. Amen.
May God bless you abundantly.
