Jesus Christ is Lord. He is the Lion of Judah. But He is not a tame lion.
Today, so many people reduce our Lord to little more than an acquaintance, a friend with whom one can high-five after work on a Friday afternoon, a cosmic Santa Claus, or any other person wholly unworthy of authentic worship. Bottom line, an idol.
In reality, our Lord reigns supreme.
This same Lord graciously condescended to come to earth, to take on the mantle of humanity in all its fullness, and became fully human. He didn’t abandon His true deity, He simply did not consider it something to be grasped whilst in the role of the Lord’s obedient servant as the Second Adam (Phil 2:6-8).
In condescending to become human, the lion became a sheep. He clothed Himself with humanity and the perfect Lamb of God was born.
A lion clothed as a sheep…a bleating lion.
There is no desire or intention whatsoever to cast any shadow over our Lord by saying “bleating lion”. Indeed, quite the opposite. It’s my intention to honor and glorify Him as we discuss the things of God, His work, His nature and His character.
It’s my feeble attempt to acknowledge the following:
- That He became incarnate and was more than willing to be the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God
- That He served as the Second Adam, living without sin in His humanity
- That He clothed Himself with humanity’s sin and bore the wrath of God against it, dying the sinner’s death in our place
- That He did this for me. And for all who will put their faith and trust in Him.
- That He was raised to life and ascended to His rightful place of honor where He now reigns on High, exercising dominion over all creation.
He is gloriously majestic and entirely worthy of the worship we owe Him. The Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God.
To God alone be all the glory!
